Hi friends! I am soo excited to finally share some of my favorites from our engagement photos with you! I’ve done a few sneak peaks on Instagram and got the sweetest feedback ever. Thank you so much for all your kind words! I had a very clear vision of what I wanted for our photos and they truly couldn’t have turned out better ? I am kinda obsessed with our photographer Rich Lander of CHARD photographer, not only is he unbelievably talented but we seriously had so much fun shooting with him! Planning for a really special photoshoot entails a lot of different elements you have to think about so I am sharing my tips for finding the perfection location, outfits and ways to get the best pictures possible!
We took these photos at Joshua Tree National Park which ended up being so perfect for us! I knew I wanted to shoot in the desert somewhere because Peter and I were both born and raised in Las Vegas which makes us total desert kids. I am in love with the raw + natural elements of being in the middle of nowhere and I’m also a major cactus lover ?? With all of these things in mind Joshua Tree was a super natural place for us to be. Shoot somewhere that you truly love, somewhere that you would love to go regardless of if you’re taking photos or not!
Coordinating your looks can be a bit challenging so my biggest tip for this is wear the best version of your favorite outfit. If you were to see Peter and I on a regular day, this is most likely that we would be wearing! Remember, less is way more! My dress had a pattern so Peter needed to be in a solid. Keep in mind the colors…1. How they will look against the backdrop of your location and 2. How they will coordinate with your other looks. Your different outfits not only need to coordinate with your partner but also with your other look. This is our other look, (which I will be sharing more of soon!) see how the yellow dress played well with this dress and how Peter’s blues tied everything together. Why is this important? Because you’re most likely going to be hanging your pictures on the wall side by side or right next to each other on your Save The Dates!
This is probably the most important! A great photographer is key. Find someone with the same vibe as you. Some photographers take darker, more moody photos while others love playing with light. Decide what you like best and what fits your personality! Follow them on Instagram and make sure you continue to love what you see and look through a bunch of their pervious work to get a good feel for them. Then reach out to them to see if you click! I knew just by Rich’s emails that he was rad!
I can’t say this enough. Be yourself. Be nature. Smile, kiss and play exactly how you would if no one was watching. You will get amazing photos if you just forget their a camera in front of your face!
Hopefully these tips were helpful! And as always let me know if you have any questions or need help with styling your special shoot! Thank you so much for reading xox
