As many of you know, I moved to Chicago about two months ago so I wanted to share a little bit of my new apartment with you! Moving out here Peter and I literally had nothing, expect for a few nick nacks from my old bedroom. I came from living with my parents and Peter had a condo that came fully furnished so we didn’t take any of those items. Starting from scratch is a serious amount of trips to Target, Ikea and Homegoods! Somehow I managed to get pretty much everything together within just a couple of weeks. I think the major thing that helped me get it all together so quickly was I had a vision of what I wanted…I knew I wanted the place to have lots of nature lighting, light colors and to be simple. With a small space I feel like you have to be careful with the pieces you have in order to make the space still feel large. We don’t know exactly how long we will be living here so we went with furniture from Ikea and Wayfair, both places have some really awesome pieces at killer prices, which I was so excited about!
I love whites and grays but by adding pops of color it totally took our space from boring to fun! My mom made me the small colorful painting at the top of the shelf (she’s major talented) so I went off of that for the pops of color by adding some fun pillows, painting the “A” bright pink, color coordinating books, etc. I looove the large white shelf. I was originally going to spray paint it gold after seeing all the Ikea hacks about this shelf on Pinterest (here) but I decided to add pops of gold instead. I thought I was going to have to buy a ton of new things for the shelf but by simply rearranging some nick nacks from my old bedroom and adding in a thing or two, it all went together really well. I am kinda obsessed with adding paints and flowers, I feel like it makes the space more homey and inviting. I absolutely love how everything turned out! I hope this helps knowing that you can totally grab new affordable pieces, mix them with things you already have and still make your new home awesome!
I hope you enjoyed a little peak into my home, I will be posting a couple more rooms soon! ❤
