Alright girls, I am so excited to finally be sharing the details about my haircare routine! One of the questions/comments I get most is definitely about my hair. I was hesitant to share because I am obviously not a professional in the hair industry, so I’ve teamed up with my hair stylist, Marissa (who also happens to be my best friend) to share all things hair with you in a series of posts over the next few months. We will be talking extensions, best products, wedding hair styles, how I curl my hair and more!
First, let me give you a little background about my hair journey. I wore all different types of extensions forever, like 6 years. After so many years of extensions, heat + dye my hair was SAD! It was thin, short, dry and fried. I didn’t know what the heck to do with it to bring it back to life until Marissa became my hair angel…
“Danielle’s hair needed a little TLC. After much negotiation and maybe a few unseen tears, we cut off the few inches that would soon never be missed! When your hair has been through the ringer and has a ton of breakage, it’s best to just embrace those short locks and start over. And boy does she rock the short!”
Chop chop…I about died the first couple weeks but in no time my hair started to become healthy and now I love it. It still has a long way to go but I am definitely seeing the progress it has made. Cutting it helped a ton but nothing has made more of a difference then using great products! Keep scrolling for Marissa and I’s swear by favorite products + tools!
SHAMPOO + CONDITIONER.
I hate to break it to you but your stylist knows if you aren’t using a good shampoo + conditioner…
“Oh yea, we know! Danielle got a little lazy once and was using a drug store shampoo + conditioner. She left me with no choice but to ask the dreadful question “What shampoo + conditioner have you been using?” While you may think drug store products are leaving your hair soft and shiny, all us hair stylists feel is waxy and heavy. Drug store products are using a small portion of high-grade ingredients of salon brands, but the rest of the ingredients are fillers and chemicals. Yea..That’s a huge no! Do your hair a massive favor and put that extra money into a salon shampoo + conditioner that supports the upkeep for that color you just paid for! You won’t regret it. Matched up babes, hide it from your bae’s! Even they notice a difference from the two and will stop using the “cheap” stuff.”
The biggest difference I personally notice when I am not using the good stuff is my hair is extremely staticky, flat and gets oily much faster!
If you aren’t using a Wet Brush, you aren’t living. The bristles are basically super nice to your hair allowing you to run the brush through your hair without pulling or tugging which means no breakage! They are super inexpensive, under $10 at Target, Walmart, Ulta, etc.
“The Wet Brush is everything! Like, everything. From fine hair to extension hair to those little sweet girls with curly hair (that you moms may wrestle with daily to let you brush) the bristles are forgiving, gentle and just make a huge difference.”
I don’t own a straightener. The only hot tool I use on my hair is this Bio Ionic Stylewinder Iron. It’s life changing! The first time Marissa used it on my hair and my curls actually held all day I couldn’t even believe it!
“This little doozy is my best kept (now revealed) secret and I truly couldn’t live without it. It gives you those prettiest loose waves that last all day (maybe even two). The design of it is brilliant and it even does all the turning and clamping for you! Who doesn’t want a styling tool that makes your life easier?”
PS. This is the same curling iron The Drybar uses if you’ve ever wondered how they always give their clients those amazing beach waves!
I have no idea what I did before I had these products. They have completely changed how my hair styles, holds and looks overall!
I always protect my hair with 5-7 sprays of this Redken Pillow Proof Blowdry.
This uplifting foam is a fine + flat haired girls dream! Lifts without making your hair oily, yessss please!
I never believed all the buzz about Moroccanoil products but my gosh, the buzz is real babes.
Here’s a few awesome notes from Marissa about why these products are must haves!…
“These four basic products are my go to’s for Danielle’s hair and will solve your day to day hairstyling needs. The uplifting foam gives your root that boost we all love without that greasy feeling we all dislike (who wants to shampoo their hair everyday? Not me!) Apply Moroccan Oil to the ends of wet or dry hair and it’s the perfect cure for those ends that cause us problems. If you use heat on your hair, you absolutely need a heat protectant. A few sprays of Redkens Pillow Proof before applying heat and it gives your hair that shiny polished off look that we all crave! Did I mention that it smells like a dream? And Moroccan Oil Strong Hold hairspray?…What is life?? I swear by it! It has that strong flexible hold without the sticky stiff feeling, WINNER!
“I love a good all natural at home treatment for your hair, especially in the summer when the sun is taking it’s toll on it (I ain’t mad at the sun). An organic coconut oil applied to your hair and left on over night is a simple and effective way to keep your hair shiny and healthy.”
I try to do this treatment once a week! It’s such an easy (and inexpensive) kind deed to give those locks!
It’s so important to take care of your hair. Good hair can change your whole look! Your hair is the one accessory that you use every single day to polish off your style so be good to it, babes!
